Annual Holiday Cello Play-in at Milligan University, TN

Bring your cello and play carols and other holiday music with cellists of all ages! Tuning starts at 5:30. Playing starts at 5:45. We begin with easy beginner carols* and then take a snack break. After the break, we play more challenging music**. You can leave whenever you need to or stay and play as long as you like, but we will wrap things up by around 7:30.

Festive attire (especially Santa Hats!) is welcomed, but not required... Food and drink contributions are also welcomed, but not required... Non-cellists are welcome (and encouraged) to come and sing along!

*Easy carols are from “Christmas Kaleidoscope” for Cello Books 1 and 2 by David Frost. **Intermediate carols are from various sources.

East Tennessee Cello Day(s) is a cello festival held in July at Milligan University, TN. We explore the cello through technique and master classes, cello orchestra rehearsals and sectionals. In addition, participants  receive commemorative t-shirts, lunch and snacks. There are two "Cellorchestras" to accommodate all ages and abilities.

The Grand Finale Concert is free and open to the public and features performances by faculty and Cello Day participants.

The first East Tennessee Cello Day was held on July 20th, 2014. Thirty participants from 6 to 83 years of age participated in master-classes, technique classes, and a cello orchestra concert. Since then, annual Cello Day themes have included Jazz Improv, Celtic Music, a celebration of The Beatles, Classically Classical Classic Cello, Just Cellin' and others.
